Need a refreshing cold apple? Try this twist on granita with apple cider and apples. Spiced with hints of fall, this will make a delicious end to your harvest meal or enjoy it as a palate cleanser for a big meal. Want to spark up your party-pour some sparkling wine over top of the granita and serve in a glass.
In a saucepan, combine apples, cider, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Bring to a simmer; cover and simmer gently for 10 minutes or until apples are very soft. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
Remove cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Place remaining mixture into blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Pour into 8 inch (1.5 L) square metal pan and freeze partially for about 1 hour or until edges start to solidify. Use a fork to stir mixture up and create “flakes” every 1 hour until it is completely frozen, about 6 hours later.
