Spiced Apple Granita

Need a refreshing cold apple? Try this twist on granita with apple cider and apples. Spiced with hints of fall, this will make a delicious end to your harvest meal or enjoy it as a palate cleanser for a big meal. Want to spark up your party-pour some sparkling wine over top of the granita and serve in a glass.

Ingredients

  • 2 Apples cored, peeled and diced
  • 1 1/2 cups Apple Cider
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick
  • 4 whole Cloves
  • 2 pieces Crystallized Ginger

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine apples, cider, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Bring to a simmer; cover and simmer gently for 10 minutes or until apples are very soft. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • Remove cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Place remaining mixture into blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Pour into 8 inch (1.5 L) square metal pan and freeze partially for about 1 hour or until edges start to solidify. Use a fork to stir mixture up and create “flakes” every 1 hour until it is completely frozen, about 6 hours later.
