Delicious fruit sorbet

During the beautiful days of summer, I love to have sorbet for dessert. It’s so refreshing and plus it’s a great nutritional choice, since it has less fat and calories than ice cream.

It also doesn’t contain cream or milk which makes it an ideal dessert for people who are lactose intolerant.

Did you know that it’s very easy to make your own home made sorbet without a machine?  When you prepare sorbet yourself, you can make sure to preserve all the nutritional value of the fruits.   This makes it the perfect dessert to pass those heatwave days!

The Harvesting Season

During the summer, we have the opportunity for great fresh fruit that grows close to home. I would suggest you to encourage your local producers to buy local products.  Take advantage of it while it’s the season!  And if you’re worried about food waste, know that making a sorbet is an excellent way to use up fruits that are starting to go bad. All you have to do is wash them and spread them out on a pan that you put in the freezer overnight or for several hours. Once they are frozen, you dump the fruits in an airtight bag and you have perfect fruit ready to be served as a sorbet at any time.

Dairy Free Cherry Sorbet

4 cups of frozen cherries

¾ cup coconut milk

1 tbsp lime juice

2 tbsp sugar

  1. Puree all the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Serve immediately or freeze for later.

Note: You can replace cherries with raspberries or blueberries for variety and coconut milk with yogurt if you aren’t lactose intolerant.
