During the beautiful days of summer, I love to have sorbet for dessert. It’s so refreshing and is a nutritious choice. It also doesn’t contain cream or milk which makes it an ideal dessert for people who are lactose intolerant.
Did you know that it’s easy to make your own sorbet without a machine? It’s perfect for those hot summer days!
The Harvesting Season
During the summer, we have access to fresh produce that’s grown close to home. Take advantage of it while it’s in season! If you’re worried about food waste, know that making a sorbet is an excellent way to use up fruits that is starting to go bad. Simply wash the fruit, spread on a pan, and freeze overnight or for several hours. Once frozen, transfer the fruit to a resealable bag. You’ll have fruit ready to be eaten as a sorbet at any time.
Dairy Free Cherry Sorbet
4 cups of frozen cherries
¾ cup coconut milk
1 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp sugar
- Puree all the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Serve immediately or freeze for later.
Note: You can replace cherries with raspberries or blueberries for variety, and use yogurt instead of coconut milk if you aren’t lactose intolerant.
