Back to school season can be hectic, especially when you have picky eaters! Here are our favorite tips for getting your kids to eat more fruits and veggies!

  1. Make fun shapes

Children are very visual, so cutting veggies and fruits into fun shapes will definitely put some fun into meal time. Here are some ideas:

  1. Get your kids cooking with you

Cooking with your kids will give them a sense of pride and teach them vital food skills. They are also much more likely to eat a meal they helped you cook! Here are some of our favorite kid-friendly recipes:

  1. Try a new fruit or vegetable every week

There’s nothing like trying something new! With our fruits and veggies from A to Z, you can also teach your kids fun facts about what they’re trying. Kids usually need to try things quite a few times before they acquire a taste so don’t give up!

  1. Start a “meatless Mondays” tradition and ask your kids to pick the recipe with you!

Getting kids involved in selecting recipes is a great way to teach kids about different fruits and vegetables as well as what kind of meals they can be incorporated into. Try any of these recipes for your next meatless Monday:

Adding greens to a fresh tomato sauce is a surefire way to enjoy more flavour and lots of colour in your pasta dishes. For a bigger bite try substituting rapini for the Swiss chard.

  1. Lead by example!

If your plate is filled with veggies and fruit, your kids will want to follow suit. Filling half your plate at every meal and snack will show your kids that you’re also committed to eating healthy and will try to emulate.

Serve a variety of fruits and vegetables in many colours. We eat with our eyes too so a bright and different plate will entice your kids even more!
